Ook dit jaar konden de studenten van de UAntwerpen stemmen op hun favoriete studentenvertegenwoordigers, of zoals ze beter gekend zijn: de Stuvers. Maar liefst vier studenten van de Faculteit FBD hebben een centraal mandaat kunnen bemachtigen en zullen volgend academiejaar de belangen van onze faculteit en onze studenten verdedigen. Congratulations to Michelle Zurek, Master’s student in Biomedical Sciences, for winning the prestigious ActUA Prize 2020. The ActUA prize is awarded by the UAntwerp Service Council. It promotes personal development through an internship abroad at one of the partner institutions of the Young Universities for the Future of Europe (YUFE) alliance.

Claudio D’Incal is a PhD student and Teaching Assistant in the Proteinchemistry, proteomics and Epigenetic Signaling Lab. He completed a Master in Molecular and Cellular Biomedical Sciences. After he completed his MSc, he did an Educational Master’s degree at UAntwerp and combined his interest in teaching and research.

Dr. Paul Fransen and colleagues from the Physiopharmacology Lab investigated the role of Nitric Oxide (NO) in controlling arterial stiffness. Given the clinical relevance of arterial stiffness as a predictor of cardiovascular risk, NO-signaling pathways could become an attractive pharmacologic target when the underlying mechanisms of arterial stiffening are fully unraveled.
