Every afternoon, around two thousand hungry staff members and students find their way to komida. ‘Strictly speaking, we are a mass-catering operation, but we make every effort not to be one’, notes the komida coordinator An Op de Beeck. Early one Monday morning, we donned an apron and hair cap and got to peek into the pots for half a day at komida Middelheim.
On Saturday 12 August, UAntwerp once again participated in Antwerp Pride with a personalised float and live DJ set. Our university was one of 74 delegations at the biggest Antwerp Pride ever.
The weather gods can be fickle, which they showed during Unifiesta – the University of Antwerp’s staff party. Despite the rain, about 1,200 employees enjoyed watching musical colleagues on stage, savoured delicious food and drinks at the food trucks, and socialised with colleagues. A layer of mud on their shoes didn’t dampen the mood.
Wanting to run the 10 Miles, but not wanting train alone. With that thought, some 20 employees started the ‘Start to 10 Miles’ in January. Together with coach Bram Vogels, they started training after the Christmas holidays. Last weekend, their big goal finally took place: the Antwerp 10 Miles.
From a hall full of lockers, to a new space to meet up and host exhibitions. The Stadscampus library has added a cosy new area, including a coffee corner.
On Friday 13 January, for the first time since 2020, UAntwerp’s New Year’s reception took place in-person. More than a thousand employees gathered in and around the Rector Dhanis lecture hall to festively toast to 2023.
On Thursday 24 November 2022, we organised our annual information evening for prospective students and their parents. The central theme was ‘Do I choose university, or do I choose college?. We immersed them into all the aspects involved when making that choice.
Our annual staff party Unifiesta finally took place again on 19 May 2022, three years after the previous edition. The sun, musical colleagues, go-karts, good food and drinks made it a fantastic edition. We made a summary of the highlights for you.
The Campus Groenenborger library is more than just a library. Of course, you will find everything you would expect at a library: books, quiet study spots, computers, places for group work, etc. But there is much more. How about 3D printing, laser cutting or vinyl cutting? All of this is possible in BibLab, a small makers’ lab.
On Thursday 21 October, Campus Drie Eiken won the award for Biodiverse Business Park 2021. The award is a welcome acknowledgement of the years of sustained efforts to make the campus grow and flourish.
Whereas 1 September 2021 is the first day of school for many children in primary and secondary education, it is also the day on which new or re-elected faculty members started their three-year term of office. What do you do when you can’t organise a ‘proper’ staff party? Make radio! On Thursday 20 May, we presented Radio Unifiesta to provide an afternoon filled with background entertainment for the offices (and home offices) of UAntwerp staff. The show was full of music, original advertisements, quizzes and stories, along with messages from, for and by colleagues.
