Dr. Paul Fransen and colleagues from the Physiopharmacology Lab investigated the role of Nitric Oxide (NO) in controlling arterial stiffness. Given the clinical relevance of arterial stiffness as a predictor of cardiovascular risk, NO-signaling pathways could become an attractive pharmacologic target when the underlying mechanisms of arterial stiffening are fully unraveled.

PhD training programs are often too focused on academia. Thanks to a European initiative, the Innovative Training Network, PhD students can perform research at two different universities and also obtain practical training in a pharmaceutical company.
I’m Laura Vangenechten a Master’s student in Biochemistry & Biotechnology. Belgium is currently in a COVID-19 enforced lockdown, thus I have a lot of extra time at home. If you need to stay at home for a long period of time, it’s important to remain intellectually active. You can use a few hours a day to enhance your skills. I’ve been learning the programming language ‘Python’.
