Keep Moving Challenge collects 696,158 minutes of exercise and 870 buckets of sweat

The March 2022 edition of the Keep Moving Challenge has ended after 28 days of vigorous exercise. A total of 382 participants gave it their all every week by doing some extra running, biking, walking and much more. In doing so, they moved for a total of 696.158 minutes!

Exercise is not only healthy for the body and mind. If you and your colleagues engage in an exercise challenge together, it will also be great for the atmosphere in your team. Between 7 and 28 March 2022, UAntwerp staff gathered in groups of four. For this edition, the teams had to collect some extra exercise minutes each week: from 1,000 minutes in the first week, to 1,300 in the final week.

A total of 382 employees participated, divided into 106 teams. Of those teams, 54 also reached the final goal every week.

The weather was good during this Keep Moving Challenge and that motivated the participants to go outside even more. Walking and cycling were the most popular activities.

Five times PLASMANT

Leg-a-sore-us is the team that collected the most exercise minutes after four weeks. With a whopping 15,947 minutes, Abraham Lin, Hasan Baysal, Jasper Verswyvel and Hanne Verswyvel – and yes, those last two are siblings – are just ahead of TUKO.BE and KrisGaatVreemd.

  1. Leg-a-sore-us 15,947
  2. TUKO.BE 15,779.7
  3. KrisGaatVreemd 15,555.4
  4. PLASMA SQUAD 14,473
  5. Let’s walk! 12,567.6

The members of Leg-a-sore-us are connected to research group PLASMANT. Remarkably, a total of five PLASMANT teams participated in the Keep Moving Challenge. Some of them also teamed up with researchers from CORE. Of those five groups, three finished in the top ten: Leg-a-sore-us collected the most exercise minutes, PLASMA SQUAD finished fourth and PLASMANT 1 is in seventh place after four weeks.

‘We often went for a run together after work’, says a proud head of department Annemie Bogaerts. ‘The Keep Moving Challenge was also an ideal way to train for the Antwerp 10 Miles that we are participating in with part of the group. Most of us also cycle to work, some dance in their free time, someone boxes and someone else accumulated exercise minutes by walking the dog a lot.’

Everyone is a winner

Such commitment deserves a present, of course. The biggest gift is that every participant had a healthy lifestyle over the past month and every team that reached the final goal of the exercise challenge also had a chance to win one of our fun (and especially tasty) prizes.
