Can you beat the virus in Corona Combat?

UAntwerp has launched the symbolic video game Corona Combat to mark the start of the second semester. Students, staff and sympathisers can bring out their inner Herman Goossens, Pierre Van Damme or Erika Vlieghe and do battle with virus particles. Professors Van Damme and Vlieghe had the honour of being the first to test the game.

Corona Combat is first and foremost for our students, but anyone can play the game. After all, its main aim is to connect and unify: all of us are fighting the same battle against the coronavirus together. Many people, including many of our students, are struggling at the moment – especially mentally. We’re doing everything we can to offer support and encouragement in various ways, for example with this light-hearted computer game.

When you’re next on campus, you’ll see that Corona Combat has completely taken over our university. Artwork by famous graffiti artist Yvon Tordoir (aka Rise One) appeared across our campuses to mark the launch of the game.

Don’t let your guard down

Those of you who have already played Corona Combat will have noticed how addictive it is! The high scores are spreading faster than… you know what. Erika Vlieghe sums it up: ‘This game is kind of like the pandemic: as soon as you let your guard down, you’ve caught the bug.
