House sparrows, black redstarts, swifts and bats can once again find their way to Stadscampus. In collaboration with the Infrastructure Department, the UAntwerp Climate Team and Natuurpunt, first-year architecture students have developed a whole host of animal houses with the aim of boosting biodiversity on campus.
The design and realisation of these animal houses is part of a first-year architecture project week, highlighting the importance of nature-inclusive design. The first residence was already set up on the Paardenmarkt complex in mid-November. This is a cohousing project for house sparrows, black redstarts, swifts and bats. Designed by students Merel Melis, Tezeta Saillart, Gloria Sprengers, Rik Van Lent and Amierkhan Sapralyev.
Soon, the other finished animal houses will also be given a place on and around the various buildings on Stadscampus.
