Linda Peters obtained her PhD in Applied Economics at the University of Antwerp. In her research, she has demonstrated that Global Public Policy is a promising application for Real Options.
Real Options
Real Options analysis is a valuation method that is based on financial option theory. A Real Option gives the right, but not the obligation, to buy (call-option) or sell (put-option) the real underlying asset (stock) at an agreed price (strike price or exercise price) during a specific period or at a predetermined expiration date.
For strategic purposes
Real Options does not regard uncertainty as a risk to be avoided, but as a window of opportunity to create value through flexible project design and corporate strategy. Therefore, real options is not only suitable for the valuation of projects, but also for strategic purposes.
She has demonstrated this on the basis of three examples: global warming, neglected diseases and migration. Due to the practical applications and methods used in her research, Real Options is accessible for everyone.
