The end of the year is approaching, and what would be better than ending the year with a heart-warming deed? To make this happen, the University of Antwerp Fund and Team Diversity are joining forces. They want to encourage you to make a donation before the end of the year. This is how we create our own Warmest Week.
Making a donation can be done to one of the three projects we highlight below. Donations to the University of Antwerp can be made via the University of Antwerp Fund. Donations of 40 euros or more are eligible for a tax certificate and entitle you to a 45% tax reduction through your personal income tax. A win-win for you and the charity.
Support students in need
Studying costs money. This is not easy for every student. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many students found it even more difficult to finance their studies. But the problem is not limited to the pandemic. Many students fall through the cracks.
For Ilias El Kostit, a student at the University of Antwerp, working often took precedence: ‘My studies actually suffered because of the time I had to invest in the various student jobs I did to pay for all my expenses. By appealing to “students in need” through Social Services, I was eventually able to focus more on my studies and less on working.’
The Department of Social, Cultural and Student Services has noticed a growing demand for financial support. That is why the University of Antwerp Fund and Team Diversity have joined forces with Social Services to set up the ‘Students in Need’ project. By doing this, we help students in need with your donations. With your donation, you give them the chance to build a bright future and you care about tomorrow today. Beautiful, isn’t it?
Kilian Van Looy, alumnus of the University of Antwerp, is a perfect example of this. ‘The financial support I received from Students in Need through Social Services made it possible for me to focus more on my studies, eventually get my degree certificate and find a job afterwards. I am eternally grateful to all the services at the university and people who helped make this possible.’

Help break the taboo of period poverty
The University of Antwerp wants to actively tackle the problem of period poverty. Unfortunately, this is still a very taboo subject. But for more and more people who menstruate, buying menstrual products is becoming a bigger problem because of the high cost. However, this is a basic need. Through your free gift, you can help break the taboo and ensure that the University of Antwerp can help students who are experiencing period poverty.

Build equal educational opportunities for young people
At the University of Antwerp, the Tutoraat project ensures that young people in secondary education are prepared to enter into higher education. The focus is mainly on young people with background characteristics that can be linked to educational inequality. Students at the University of Antwerp act as tutors in this project. They coach young people in challenging subjects and act as role models. By doing this, we want to inspire young people in secondary education to dare to take the step to higher education.
