Michael Meulyzer, Equine Surgeon at Bosdreef Veterinary Group
Michael obtained a Bachelor degree in Veterinary Medicine from UAntwerpen and graduated in 2004 from Ghent University as veterinarian. He specializes in Equine Surgery and is an associate of the Bosdreef Veterinary Group which comprises 3 clinics: Bosdreef, De Morette and Cavallina. At the Equine Clinic De Morette, Michael is part of a multidisciplinary team of specialists where his main activities include surgery, orthopaedics and dental care for horses.
In 2006, Michael moved to Canada where he obtained his DES graduate (Diploma of specialist) in Equine Surgery at the University of Montreal. He is also a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS).
My Bachelor training in the Veterinary Department at UAntwerpen gave me a solid foundation, helping me to further expand my expertise. My advice to current UAntwerpen Veterinary students would be to work hard, learn as much as you can and don’t be afraid to go overseas to do more specialized training.
Casper Pype, Solutions Specialist at Anju Software
Casper obtained a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from UAntwerpen in 2011 and 2013. He then joined Steven Van Cruchten’s lab as a doctoral student, where he investigated the optimization of drug metabolism using a novel metabolic zebrafish developmental toxicity assay (mZEDTA). Casper successfully defended his PhD thesis and graduated as Doctor in Veterinary Sciences in October 2018.
Casper now works for Anju Software, an international company specializing in clinical data platforms and data visualization. He first joined Anju as a Pharmaceutical Data Analyst, and his main responsibilities included quality assurance of the scientific data in two platforms of the company. Now, Casper is a Solutions Specialist at Anju. This new position entails extra responsibilities of project management, client support and both online and on-site client training for major global Pharmaceutical companies.
The broad knowledge I gained as a Biomedical Sciences student greatly helped me in my professional career. My PhD bridged several research areas, as it was related to the pharmaceutical industry but also required knowledge and experience of working with laboratory animals and human embryology. Also, the communication skills that I developed as a doctoral researcher have helped me to become a vital point-of-contact for our many clients.
