In de wandelgangen van de Rijkshandelshogeschool, een van de vroegste voorlopers van de Universiteit Antwerpen, heerst commotie. Er wordt ijverig een brief doorgegeven tussen de studenten die druk de inhoud ervan met elkaar bespreken. Het is een protestbrief verspreid door een student. Hij wijst op fouten in de mededeling van zijn sanctie. Zijn platenspeler aanzien ze verkeerdelijk voor een radio. Een aantal datums zijn niet juist. Ook het taalgebruik van de administratie wordt in vraag gesteld, waarop de student op een scherpe manier verwijst naar het boek <em>Verzorgde schrijftaal<\/em> van Talpaert en Buyse. Misschien het meest belangrijke in de brief, is dat hij zijn medestudenten erop wil wijzen dat er een verrader in hun midden zit; een medestudent zou hem verklikt hebben. Dit is hoogstwaarschijnlijk meteen ook de reden waarom deze protestbrief zo breed verspreid werd onder de studenten.
