In 2002 hebben ze de Gobelijntjes in het leven geroepen om de professoren en assistenten in de verf te zetten die net dat tikkeltje verder gaan om hun studenten te begeleiden. Studenten van de Universiteit Antwerpen kunnen op het einde van het schooljaar stemmen op de \u2018beste prof\u2019 en de \u2018beste assistent\u201d van hun faculteit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Het record van het grootste aantal Gobelijntjes staat op naam van mevrouw Ida Ruts die als assistente bij de faculteit Toegepaste Economische Wetenschappen in 2015 haar tiende Gobelijntje in de wacht sleepte. Ook de huidige rector van de Universiteit Antwerpen, Herman Van Goethem, won tijdens zijn carri\u00e8re als professor aan de faculteit Rechten verschillende Gobelijntjes. Bij de faculteit Sociale Wetenschappen is professor Walter Weyns bijna jaarlijks de trotse winnaar van een Gobelijntje.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Deze bronzen beeldjes zijn gebaseerd op professor Gobelijn van de bekende Vlaamse stripreeks <em>Jommeke<\/em>. Professor Gobelijn is een verstrooide wetenschapper, die zich vaak vergist waardoor hij vaak het omgekeerde zegt van wat hij bedoelt. Ondanks zijn verstrooidheid heeft professor Gobelijn het hart op de juiste plaats en doet hij er alles aan om de mensen te helpen.
