Op het eerste gezicht is dit geen interessant boek. Het is vooral een muur tekst van namen en cijfers, en bovendien ook nog eens in het Frans geschreven, al zitten we in Antwerpen. Maar mocht je het zelf doorlezen, zou je hier en daar een aantal bijzondere namen tegenkomen. Het eerste werk dat hij ooit schreef was het clublied van zijn eigen studentenvereniging. Je zal de naam Willem Elsschot hier wel niet terugvinden, want dat was zijn zelfverzonnen schrijversnaam. Zijn echte naam, Alfons de Ridder, kom je wel tegen. Nadat hij afstudeerde ging hij in verschillende Europese steden zoals Parijs, Brussel en natuurlijk ook Antwerpen werken. Terwijl hij in Rotterdam woonde, schreef hij zijn eerste roman: <em>Villa Des Roses<\/em>. Het is dankzij die roman dat ik de naam Willem Elsschot ken, want ik heb het boek zelf ooit op school gelezen.
