De UIA was een pluralistische universiteit, waarbij de hoogste beleidsorganen paritair moesten zijn samengesteld uit katholieken en niet-katholieken. Hierdoor werd de scheiding tussen rijksinstellingen en vrije instellingen overstegen. Vanaf 1973 werkt de UIA samen met de UFSIA en het RUCA. Deze samenwerking zou in 1995 resulteren in de confederale Universiteit Antwerpen, die in 2003 werd omgevormd tot de eengemaakte universiteit met dezelfde naam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lees hier de blog van Alexia Cousement over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uantwerpen.be\/en\/research-groups\/power-in-history\/blog\/7-april-2021\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">50 jaar UIA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Studeren aan de UIA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Het onderwijsbeleid van de UIA was vernieuwend in de jaren 1970. Het jaar werd opgedeeld volgens een trimestersysteem (nu semesters), studieresultaten werden bijgehouden via een creditsysteem en de nadruk lag op actief onderwijs en zelfstudie, met beperkte hoorcolleges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Letteren en Wijsbegeerte: Germaanse en Romaanse filologie (licentiaat)<\/li><li>Politieke en Sociale Wetenschappen (licentiaat)<\/li><li>Rechtsgeleerdheid (licentiaat)<\/li><li>Geneeskunde: geneeskunde, farmaceutische wetenschappen en biomedische wetenschappen (licentiaat)<\/li><li>Wetenschappen: wiskunde, informatica, natuurkunde, scheikunde en biologie (licentiaat) <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">UZA<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Behalve de UIA werd in 1971 ook het Universitair Ziekenhuis Antwerpen (UZA) opgericht. In 1979 opende het ziekenhuis de deuren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fort VI, Wilrijk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>De gebouwen van de UIA verrezen op de gronden rond Fort VI in Wilrijk. Tussen het Universiteitsplein en de Fort VI-straat, langs het fort werden gebouwen A, B, C en D opgetrokken. Deze gebouwen staan nu in natuurgebied. Aan de overkant van de Fort VI-straat werd het studentenrestaurant gebouwd (G), aan een mooie vijver met <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.uantwerpen.be\/collectief-geheugen\/ganzen-uia\/\">ganzen<\/a>. Verder verrezen de gebouwen Q, R, S, T, U en V.
