Mensen moeten langer werken, maar veel organisaties weten niet hoe ze met die groeiende mix van jong en oud moeten omgaan. Leeftijdsdiversiteit is een tweesnijdend zwaard. Enerzijds heb je grote mix van kennis en ervaringen, waarbij jongeren en ouderen elk eigen sterktes hebben. Dat zorgt voor synergie\u00ebn op de werkvloer. Maar anderzijds zorgen de andere levensfases, waarden en voorkeuren ook voor conflicten. Na de uren wordt er minder afgesproken met collega&#8217;s van andere leeftijden, en dat heeft zijn gevolgen.&#8221;<\/p><p>De boodschappen die gelden voor leeftijdsdiversiteit gelden volgens professor De Meulenaere ook voor <strong>andere vormen van diversiteit<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Kim: &#8220;Denk aan etniciteit, afkomst, gender &#8230; Hoe meer verschillende perspectieven op een bepaalde probleem, hoe creatiever je wordt en hoe beter de besluitvorming zal zijn. Maar er moet wel voor gezorgd worden dat de verschillen er niet voor zorgen dat er niet gecommuniceerd wordt.&#8221;<\/p><p>Kim De Meulenaere bestudeerde het nut van <strong>anci\u00ebnniteitsgekoppelde lonen<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Kim: &#8220;In Belgi\u00eb worden onze lonen heel erg gekoppeld aan anci\u00ebnniteit. In mijn doctoraatsonderzoek stelde ik me de vraag of organisaties daar beter van werden, of niet. Wat bleek? Het werkt motiverend, werknemers werken er productiever door. Maar we moeten het wel zien in het grotere geheel: er zijn steeds meer oudere werknemers. Veel organisaties kunnen dat niet meer betalen en zoeken naar een alternatief. Vaak wordt dan naar prestatieverloning gegrepen, maar dat werkt enkel als je prestaties ook volledig kan meten voor een werknemer.&#8221;<\/p><p>Kim De Meulenaere is een alumna <strong>sociaal-economische wetenschappen<\/strong>.<\/p><p>Kim: &#8220;Ik heb nog geen seconde spijt gehad van die studiekeuze. Uit de mix van het sociale en het economische heb ik enorm veel geleerd, en het wordt erg gewaardeerd op de arbeidsmarkt. Mijn voormalige medestudenten zijn echt heel divers terechtgekomen. Met een diploma SEW op zak kan je eender wat nog doen, maar je hebt wel de juiste basis. Het is niet gewoon een toegangsticket, het is een toegangsticket met de juiste bagage.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p><div>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #4b4b4b; font-size: 20px;\">Beluister de
