Laat staan dat de dansers meer spreken dan bewegen. Toch zag Rosa Lambert (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uantwerpen.be\/en\/research-groups\/vispoet\/\"><em>Research Centre for Visual Poetics<\/em><\/a><\/strong>) <strong>op de Belgische podia van de afgelopen tien jaar veel dansvoorstellingen waarin tekst sterk verweven werd met beweging. <\/strong><em>(Tekst: Rosa Lambert)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de recente dansvoorstellingen van onder meer Mette Edvardsen speelt tekst telkens een belangrijke rol. Zo maakte Edvardsen de voorstelling <em>Black<\/em>, waarin ze met woorden zoals \u201ctable,\u201d \u201clamp,\u201d en \u201cchair\u201d op de lege sc\u00e8ne een hele wereld cre\u00ebert. Ze herhaalt elk woord acht keer en vormt zo een ritme en klankenspel waarop haar fysieke bewegingen elegant inspelen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In de voorstelling <em>new skin <\/em>van Hannah De Meyer gebeurt er iets gelijkaardigs: De Meyer beschrijft de verschillende soorten landschappen waardoorheen ze wandelt. Een aantal terugkerende bewegingen kleuren als het ware dat landschap mee in. Ook zij transformeert door een samenspel van tekst en beweging een lege sc\u00e8ne tot een rijk universum aan beelden en taferelen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bewegen met taal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Het gebruik van gesproken tekst binnen westerse dans is op zich niets nieuws. Het dook immers al op als een belangrijk element in het werk van naoorlogse choreografen, zoals dat van de wereldberoemde Duitse choreograaf Pina Bausch of van de toonaangevende Amerikaanse choreografen Trisha Brown en Bill T. Jones. Zij gebruikten tekst vooral als manier om commentaar of een verhaal toe te voegen aan de dans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opmerkelijk aan het werk van de hedendaagse groep makers <strong>\u2013<\/strong> zoals ook Chloe Chignell, Bryana Fritz, Abke Haring, Daniel Linehan, Dounia Mahammed, Alma S\u00f6derberg <strong>\u2013<\/strong> is dat ze tekst veel sterker inzetten als ritme of als klankenspel. Daarmee verbinden ze de woorden onlosmakelijk aan de bewegingen van de dans. Eigenlijk vergroten deze voorstellingen uit hoe we taal ook in het dagelijkse leven ervaren. We ondervinden hoe bepaalde woorden ons lichaam tot rust brengen, terwijl andere woorden het net doen opspannen. De wisselwerking tussen tekst en beweging op hedendaagse danspodia maakt dus tastbaar hoe we als mens niet alleen denken, maar ook voelen en bewegen met taal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosa Lambert | <a href=\"mailto:Rosa.lambert@uantwerpen.be\">Rosa.lambert@uantwerpen.be<\/a> | 0476856118<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-verse\" id=\"english\"><strong>Choreographers Demonstrate How Text Can Move with the Body<\/strong>\nAudiences attending dance performances typically do not expect dancers to speak more than move. Yet, in the Belgian performing arts scene of the past decade, numerous dance productions appeared in which text was intricately intertwined with movement. In recent performances by choreographers such as Mette Edvardsen, text plays a crucial role. In Black, Edvardsen creates an entire world on an empty stage using words like \"table,\" \"lamp,\" and \"chair.\" Repeating each word eight times, she forms a rhythmic interplay, elegantly complementing her physical movements.\n\nIn Hannah De Meyer's new skin we can trace a similar use of text: De Meyer describes the various landscapes she traverses, with recurring movements colouring that landscape. Through a synergy of text and movement, she transforms an empty stage into a rich universe of images and scenes.\n\nWhile the inclusion of spoken text in Western dance is not new, contemporary choreographers like Chloe Chignell, Bryana Fritz, Abke Haring, Daniel Linehan, Dounia Mahammed, and Alma S\u00f6derberg employ text more strongly as rhythm or soundplay, intricately connecting words with dance movements. These performances amplify how we experience language in daily life, showcasing the tangible impact that words can have on our bodies \u2014 some words might for instance bring calm sensations, while other words might provoke tension.
